According to an eyewitness, the truck with an unknown registration number while conveying gasoline had a lone accident and exploded in the process. Previous administrations spent N8.9trn on subsidy in 10 years ― PPPRA

By Michael Eboh The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, yesterday, disclosed that N8.9 trillion was spent on fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, mainly by previous administrations, between 2006 and 2015. According to data released to support the need for deregulation of the downstream petroleum industry, the PPPRA stated that the bulk of the sum was expended between 2011 and 2015, where N6.7 trillion, representing 74.8 per cent of the total were spent on subsidy. Giving a breakdown of the figure, the PPPRA disclosed that N257.36 billion, N271.51 billion, N630.57 billion, N409.31 billion, and N667.08 billion were spent on fuel subsidy in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010, while in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, fuel subsidy gulped N2.1 trillion, N1.35 trillion, N1.32 trillion, N1.22 trillion and N653.51 billion. Revealed: How Army Commander ‘Colonel Bako’ was killed by Boko Haram

Nigerian Army By Nwafor Sunday Nigerian Army, Monday revealed how Col DC Bako, commander of 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa, was killed in an ambush on Sunday. Ado Isa, the spokesman of the Nigeria Army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, said Bako led a patrol to clear Boko Haram Terrorits from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa when his patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020. Explaining further, he said, the troops cleared the ambush resulting to the killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and equipment. Civil servants in Cross River protest removal of names from payroll

Some civil servants whose names were removed from the payroll of the Cross River Government on Monday in Calabar picketed the state secretariat complex, demanding reinstatement. The protesters carried placards with various inscription such as “Ayade pay us our salaries, “No Trade Union in Cross River”, “We will protest until we are reinstated”, among others. It would be recalled that the state government in August 2019 removed the names of no fewer than 2,500 civil servants from its payroll. One of the protesting civil servants, Mr James Obeten, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the situation had caused untold hardships in his families. “We were duly employed in 2015, and were given employment letters, it is very shocking that the government stopped our salaries since August 2019. “Without any reason, our names were dropped from the payroll, they claim that we were employed through the backdoor,” he said. Breaking: Colonel killed during Boko Haram ambush

Soldiers A Nigerian Army colonel has been killed in a Boko Haram ambush. The colonel and some soldiers were attacked, on Sunday, when their vehicle was ambushed near Damboa, Borno State. Details of the attack are yet to be known, but an army source told PREMIUM TIMES that the late colonel would be buried on Tuesday. As at the time of filling this report, Journalists are not certain if his family has been notified about the situation, thus the reason for shielding his identity. When contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Sagir Musa, declined to confirm the attack but said a press statement would soon be released about an attack in Borno State. EFCC detains fake army officer over scams

The suspect By Soni Daniel, Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal Office is interrogating one Eze Mavus Ugochukwu, a student of Computer Science, Bauchi State Polytechnic, who defrauds unsuspecting members of the public by posing as a Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army. Hoodlums kill Police Inspector in Abia

By Ugochukwu Alaribe Tragedy struck in Aba, Abia State, at the weekend as gunmen shot dead a Police Inspector at Uratta in Aba North Council area of the state. The policeman whose name was given as Inspector Emma was said to have been transferred from Umuahia to Uratta police station, about two months ago. A police source told Vanguard that the slain policeman was on his way to work last Friday at about 8pm when he saw a man riding a motorcycle. He was alleged to have stopped and impounded the machine for an undisclosed reason. The source explained that the police inspector was riding on the motorcycle to the Uratta police station when on approaching Uratta Road by Chief Obi Street, he was attacked by three armed men. Floods: 60 houses swept away, as FCT residents seek FG’s intervention

This is because the torrential rains in the nation’s capital in the past couple of weeks have rendered hundreds of people homeless, following the destruction of over 60 houses.
