Avoid Examination Malpractices, Cultism or Face Expulsion

Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Rev. Dr. Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa, has advised the students to shun examination malpractices and cultism in the Polytechnic.
He said any student caught in such practices shall be expelled without pardon from the school.
Speaking at the 42 matriculation ceremony organized by the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, at the Polytechnic’s stadium, on the Wednesday 4 March, the rector urged the students to take their studies seriously by going for lectures, making their notes, doing, doing their assignments and practical and avoid external tutorials by unknown students who may add confusion to them from what they have been taught by their lecturers.
Dr. Arimanwa, who was once a student of the Polytechnic, advised the students to avoid keeping late nights, indecent dressings, cohabitations amongst students of opposite sex and avoid bringing embarrassment to themselves, their families and the Polytechnic.
The rector, further charged the students to make good use of the Polytechnic library for researches and for reading materials. He also mandated the students to acquire a skill, through the entrepreneurial and skill acquisition center, before graduation.
Charging the students to be security conscious, the rector said that students should know their rights by reading the hand book provided them by the Polytechnic, free of charge. He also advised the students to pay regular visit to the medical center for their medications and avoid self medication.
For spiritual growth and empowerment, Rev. Arimanwa, encouraged the students to join in the monthly Interdenominational Solemn Assembly for rededicating themselves and the school to God.
Urging the lecturers, the rector who is a Priest in the Anglican Communion, said that they should take advantage of the internet services (Smartcampus) provided by the Polytechnic, to upload their students data base, where assessment tests and examination scores could be uploaded on the internet, for parents and guardians to easily access the performance of their wards, anywhere, anytime and any day.
Addressing the parents and guardians, the rector, charged them to be responsive and proactive towards the affairs of their wards, that they should from time to time, pay an unannounced visit to them.
The Rector’s words, “You as fresh students, must start from your very first lectures to show serious commitment to your studies. Do all your assessments and tests. Don’t miss any classes and if you do, copy notes, revise the topics. Avoid tutorials by students who may damage what your lecturers have taught you. Use the library judiciously and you will achieve success in your examination.
“Avoid any form of indecent / inappropriate dressing. They attract negative attention and immoral minds and may have regrettable outcomes.
“Desist from cohabitation. Your parents and guardians did not send you to school to become illegal wives and husbands and end up with unwanted pregnancies or babies instead of your graduation certificates.
“Avoid keeping late nights. That is the time for rape, robbery and other forms of deviant anti-social behaviour. Read in groups at night, return to your hostels in groups and avoid night parties, they are the breeding ground for immorality.
“We place God first in our lives and activities here by having monthly Interdenominational Solemn Assembly to rededicate ourselves and institution to God.
“Our institution is a now veritable ICT Hub with the Smartcampus Initiative. It is a twenty-four hour service powered by solar energized panels on light poles round the campus.
“The Smartcampus Initiative of this administration is an ambitious state of the art, highbrow comprehensive cloud-based web platform that now makes it possible to browse the net from any position on campus.
“Every student must acquire a skill before graduation. This way we contribute to reducing unemployment among graduates in the country.
“We advise that in all your activities, you endeavour to play by the rules of engagement in order not to run afoul of the law. Know right by reading the student handbook. It is given to you free of charge; remember that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
“The Polytechnic has a twenty four hour medical center with competent and highly qualified personnel. Students are advised to avail themselves of these services and avoid self medication and quack medical outlets which can be very dangerous to their health.
“In training your wards as our students, we partner with you at all times. You can help us by checking on your wards frequently and unannounced. Always monitor their academic progress. Do not over indulge them no matter how much you love them. Insist on their acquiring a skill before graduation. Our duty is to guide them to achieve this. Yours is to support our efforts in this regards”.
Among other principal officers of the Polytechnic that were  at the ceremony include, the Deputy Rector (Admin), Dr. Mrs. A. N. Nwosu; the Registrar, Mrs. Anuna, E. C.; the Bursar, Mr. V. N. Anyanwuocha; the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. C. O. Enyia.

Trump leaves hospital for White House; removes mask immediately

President Donald Trump checked out of hospital Monday after four days of emergency treatment for Covid-19, pulling off his mask the moment he reached the White House and vowing to quickly get back on the campaign trail. Shortly beforehand, Trump had tweeted that Americans, who have lost nearly 210,000 people to the virus, have nothing to fear. A series of made-for-TV moments allowed Trump to squeeze the maximum from his medical discharge, starting by exiting alone from the large gold-colored front doors of the Walter Reed military hospital just outside Washington. Live on television, he then walked in a mask to a limousine, giving the thumbs up, before boarding Marine One helicopter for the quick flight to the White House — which he left on Friday after falling ill. After landing, he walked up the steps onto the South Portico’s stately balcony, demonstratively removed his mask and offered a 23-second salute to the departing Marine One. With less than a mont...
