Lockdown: Police arrest 191 suspects, recover 15 guns, others in Lagos, Ogun

The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, has ordered the deployment of additional intelligence and operational assets of the Force to Lagos and Ogun States to strengthen security in the areas where hoodlums had held sway in the last few days.
The deployed team, which comprised Police Mobile Force Units, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Intelligence Response Team, and the Special Tactical Squad, is being led by the Coordinating Deputy Inspector General for South-West Geopolitical Zone, Peter Ogunyanwo.
In a statement on Monday by the Force, 191 suspects have been arrested in connection with criminal activities in the two states during the coronavirus lockdown.
The PUNCH reports that cases of robbery and banditry have increased in the last few days with residents of the two states forming vigilante groups and making bonfires to survive each day.
The PUNCH also reports that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), extended a two-week lockdown in Abuja as well as Lagos and Ogun States which ends on Monday night by another 14 days.
“A total of 191 suspects have been arrested in Lagos and Ogun States in connection with the incidents. The following exhibits, 15 locally-made guns, 52 live cartridges, 42 cutlasses and axes and a large quantity of weeds suspected to be marijuana have been recovered from the hoodlums by the Police team in the Agbado, Ifo, Ota, and Agege axis.
“The IGP assures the citizens that the police will not sit idly by and allow activities of a few criminals to disrupt the peace and security of the country.
“He commends Nigerians for their steadfastness, patience, perseverance, and vigilance at this critical time,” the Force stated.
